To add to Poul's thoughts, as Lazio and I pointed out few days ago, there are no real alternate airports on this route except a short grass strip on the northern side of Raoul Island at these coordinates: -29.243532,-177.937295. This makes the planning even more challenging. It would be really interesting to read about planning for this leg. Manang 28.02.2012 12:46:43 GMT
Hey,
Will Matevz fly from Pokhra to Everest and back again?
I wonder. Would not Lukla be a better point of departue and return than Pokhra for Everest flight?
He could take a good local weather chance to 'climb' the mountain. And good luck!! Poul Brandrup (Denmark) 28.02.2012 11:37:17 GMT
Hi Matevz and the GLWF Team, I know it is only a little after 01:30 AM on Cook Islands. I am nevertheless sure that Matevz and the GLWF team has already planned for the next leg to Auckland, NZ. This leg will take Matevz from timezone - 10 to +12 and that alone will require some thought. In addition it is a flight of around 1630 nautical miles (appr. 3020 km). I hope you will share at least some overall elements of the planning as it makes following the adventure in real time so much more interesting. Have a continued good day. By geographic position Matevz is almost on opposite side of the world - by Longitude.

SreÄno do Nove zelandije. Poul Brandrup (Denmark) 28.02.2012 10:22:15 GMT

Great contributions of Colin and Michael to the whole adventure! Pipistrel and GLWF team can be truly proud of the generous people and representatives they have around the world. This undoubtedly adds a new dimension to this epic adventure. Again, thank you Colins for your generous help and thanks to Michael as well. I am sure not just Matevz and rest of GLWF team, but also everybody here appreciates what you did/are still doing! You're great, guys!!! StaneA 28.02.2012 07:53:06 GMT

@ Update on Colin. Absolutely; thanx to Colin. I am sure that everyone on the forum is appreciating Colin’s assistance and his quick response in assisting Matevz. I hope that the flight to NZ will be without any complication and the weather will be O.K. Canberra and southern NSW does not look to good at the moment but hopefully it will improve by the time Matevz arrives in ACT. Anonymous 28.02.2012 07:00:45 GMT

Many of the people on the forum may not know this and I only learnt of this at midnight on Saturday when speaking with Colin in New Zealand. He is not only the best Rotax service person in the whole South Pacific he is also the proud owner of a Pipistrel Sinus tail wheel aircraft ! again, thank you so much to dropping everything completely without warning and heading off to assist Matevz in his hour of need. It is greatly appreciated and I'm sure everybody else congratulates you on being able to help continue the adventure. Thank you Colin ! Colin 28.02.2012 03:22:20 GMT

Hello everybody, just tried to ring Colin in New Zealand to see if he has arrived back from Tahiti so we can get a full update on the aircraft, its repair and condition. Unfortunately he cannot get a flight back until Thursday night New Zealand time because there are only a couple of flights each week from New Zealand to Tahiti. I guess we will have to wait to get a full rundown on everything that was done to the aircraft to satisfy everybody's interest and requests for more information. As soon as I get the information I will gladly pass it through to the group. In the meantime we are organising a reception with the Slovenian Ambassador to Australia and the Slovenian Embassy when Matevz arrives into Australia. Anybody on the group who is interested is more than welcome and encouraged to come and greet Matevz in Canberra when he arrives and the same also goes for people in Townsville in north Queensland Australia Peter 27.02.2012 21:14:01 GMT
Hope matevz will reach cock isl before bad weather, wx on the way to NZ doesn't look good. Good luck. StaneA 27.02.2012 21:12:45 GMT
