Finally Patagonia!!!
After 26 years I am just back to the place where I spent my most intense climbings summiting Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy with my friends Boris, Bogdan and Rado.
Pleasant evening and dinner with mr. Smon and Bajda, slovenians from Mendoza got me back to hotel late, so some of my homework should wait for first weather brake.
It is a long flight down from Mendoza along the Andes. Weather forecast whas not very good with strong westerly winds which usually bring bad weather to the mountains. Took off from La Putilla Aeroclub was almost without delay as I really got good support from the local pilots. My fuel tanks were not as fool I would like because the runway was quite rough for small wheels. The ground speed was very low right from the beginning so I soon decided after discussion with Domen, to stop in Neuquen for some reserve fuel as weather might changed the plans. Mid day in desert is turbulent anyway but with strong wind even more. After Neuquen the forward visibility dropped to zero due volcanic ash coming from Chilean volcano, so I climbed higher to get some fresh air. An hour or so later improved but Domen sent message via Iridium about some bad rainy weather in front of me and advised detour so south east. It was strange to me to find heavy rainfall in the desert so I just head south and soon found not so bad conditions and enough space between dark clouds and dry ground. More south sky got brighter so as able to climbed higher to avoid terrible turbulence. Right above me were long lenticularis clouds indicators of mountain waves which made flying challenging in strong down and updrafts. Crab angle of the aircraft was unbelievable, more than 35 deg. so I always looked at the scenery I didn't go. Mountains were hidden in the clouds so no need to circled for images. After almost 10 demanding hours I finally got Lago Viedma and Argentina in sight and approached - sideway to the new International airport named by legendary pilot Armando Tola. Final for runway 27 was slow as I had 35 kts into the nose. LAN Boing was waiting on holding and I just hopped not to crash in front of their eyes. Taxiing was demanding in gusting wind but soon Aeroclub pilots grabbed my wing tips and helped me inside Lago Argentina hangar. Pedro Skvarca, legendary slovenian, argentinian glaciologist was there with his daughter Carla and slovenian flag. He did so much for our project that my eyes got wet when we made a hug, argentinian style. He took care over me in Calafate so I feel like being home. I missed 10 days of good weather and land in the first bad one. The forecast is not very promising but lets wait and see. Keep your fingers crossed for some weather windows. No pa seveda bravo vsi. Domen Grauf 05.02.2012 20:35:16 GMT

Dear visitors of the Forum GLWF.
We would like to let you know, that from the beginning we have tried to avoid protection of the forum. We know that this part of the entry is a bit unfriendly to the users. Due to massive congestion of "spams" we had no choice to protect the forum. We hope that this will not discourage you to support Matevž on his journey around the world. Domen Grauf 05.02.2012 19:52:09 GMT

In brez kode teksta ni hotel sprejeti. DELA!!! Bravo! S5-Ivan 05.02.2012 18:37:02 GMT
Denis 05.02.2012 18:36:10 GMT

Arrival in Calafate.
Upon arrival in Calafate Matevž was greeted by Peter Skvarča. Peter Skvarča is the legendary Slovenian glaciologist in Patagonia and on the Antarctic, which is well-deserved for an exceptional reception in southern Argentina. We would like to thank him for the tremendous effort and friendly reception. Sincere thanks also to Aeroclubu Lago Argentina, Pablo Wyssu and Armando Tola International Airport, named after legendary argentinian pilot. Matevž is staying in Hotel Sierra Nevada, owned by Silvia De Bellini Tola, daughter of the before mentioned famous argentinian pilot. We also thank the Los Glaciares National Park, where they issued a special permit to fly over the glaciers. Domen Grauf 05.02.2012 17:27:57 GMT
Prihod v Calafate

Domen Grauf 05.02.2012 12:12:10 GMT

Hi Michael, I think it would be a good thing to stop the spam. It also appears that some messages my go lost. To my surprise some of my messages do no longer appear? It may be of no real importance, but still. I cannot imagine there have been problem with the content. In any case i am following this endeavour with great interest. And looking for the updates several times a day. So at the very least i hope the GLWF service will be able to keep that function on. Have a nice Sunday.
